§ 1. The city attorney.

  • The City Council shall appoint a person to serve as attorney that is duly licensed by the State of Texas, to be the City Attorney.

    The City Attorney shall be entitled to compensation for services as established by the City Council and shall serve at the pleasure of the City Council.

    The City Attorney shall draft, or approve as to legal form, every ordinance proposed by the City Council and shall review all contracts and other documents in which the City has an interest.

    The City Attorney, or other attorneys selected by the City Attorney with the approval of the City Council, shall represent the City in all litigation. The City Attorney shall be the legal advisor to the City and counsel for the City and all its officers and departments in the conduct of City business.
